Dr. Bill Shipley
Professor Emeritus, Université de Sherbrooke
170+ peer-reviewed papers. Bill is one of the world's leading statistical ecologists, known for developing rigorous quantitative tools to understand how plant communities assemble and function. He integrates field ecology with statistical innovation, aiming to disentangle complex cause-and-effect relationships in natural systems. His research powers three systems we use: the Global CSR Calculator (Pierce et al. 2017, co-author) for plant survival strategies, the regression approach linking traits to Ellenberg indicators (Shipley et al. 2017) — which we extended for our XGBoost-based EIVE predictions — and the framework predicting ecosystem services from CSR strategies. Bill also advised on our guild scoring methodology and encyclopedia content.
